Remembrance Day
The Romanian Cultural Institute in London was delighted to welcome many friends and new faces for an exceptional event commemorating the International Holocaust Day. We screened the documentary “Memories from the Eastern Front” by Radu Jude and Adrian Cioflâncă, followed by an insightful conversation with Professor Dan Stone, Director of the Holocaust Research Institute, University of London and Adrian Cioflâncă, Director of the "Wilhelm Filderman" Center for the Study of Jewish History in Romania, moderated by Dorian Galbinksi, former BBC veteran journalist and author.
The event was opened by Aura Woodward, the director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, who spoke about the significance of the evening. H.E. Laura Popescu, Ambassador of Romania to the UK delivered the keynote speech, paying tribute to the six million Jews and many other defenceless civilians murdered in the Holocaust. She also referred to the need to raise awareness about disinformation and political extremism. The Ambassador said that Romania has come to embrace its past and is now viewed as a model of good practice in the region. H.E. Ruslan Bolbocean, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the UK also attended the event.
The event concluded with reflections and questions from the audience, including the powerful testimony of Carol Cohn, a survivor of the Transnistria deportations during WWII.
