“Beyond Limits”

A Celebration of Paralympic Excellence

“Every step forward will bring you closer to the final victory.” – Alexandru Bologa

We were delighted to present Private View 'Beyond Limits', a personal photographic exhibition by London-based Romanian photographer Alexandru Radu Popescu. Dedicated to the Romanian and British Paralympic Champions of the Paris 2024 Games, this special event is a tribute to their amazing achievements and personal stories of resilience.

The exhibition was opened by RCI London Director Aura Woodward, in the presence of the Paralympians themselves and of HE Mrs. Laura Popescu, Romania’s Ambassador in the UK. We were all uplifted by the incredible inner strength and radiant spirit of these amazing champions and it was a true privilege to share this moment with our special guests: judoka Bologa Florin Alexandru - winner of the gold medal at this year’s Paris Paralympic Games, Tamas Gergely – Alex Bologa’s fantastic coach and Ciprian Anton – Vice-President of the Romanian Paralympic Committee and the heart and soul of Romania’s wider Paralympic family.

Organized in partnership with the Romanian Paralympic Committee, the Romanian Embassy in Great Britain, the British Embassy in Romania and the British Council Romania the private viewing took place on October 22 at 7:00 p.m. The exhibition could be visited in the Brâncusi Gallery of RCI London between October 23-26, between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Judo star Alexandru Bologa, who won gold for Romania at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, is our special guest for the opening of the exhibition. He will be joined by Ciprian Anton, the vice-president of the Romanian Paralympic Committee. Both appear in the exhibition.

Alexandru Radu Popescu captured the essence of Paralympic athletes in a stunning series of portraits. Each work combines an iris, photographed close-up with a special lens, with half of the protagonist's face. This powerful juxtaposition creates stunning and original portraits that go beyond physical triumphs, celebrating the individuality, inner strength and inherent worth of each champion. The exhibition highlights the beauty of diversity and the limitless potential of the human spirit. Join us on this visual journey and witness the remarkable stories of these extraordinary Paralympic champions!

Born in Romania in 1986 and settled in Great Britain in 2014, Alexandru Radu Popescu is one of the photographers commissioned by the British Paralympic team. Following his participation as a photographer, in 2015, at London Fashion Week, Alexandru expanded his portfolio to include concerts of famous Romanian artists who performed in London. Having studied photography at the London College of Contemporary Arts and Morley College, Alexandru Radu Popescu is a member of the National Union of Journalists, the Royal Photographic Society and the Association of Photographers. He exhibited in London and Bucharest, and among his awards are two distinctions in the 35AWARDS competition: drone photography (2021) and mention in the Top 70 photographers in Great Britain (2024).

The event was kindly supported by Aqua Carpatica, Crystals of London, Up to Your Door and Levenes Solicitors.
